About Me

I completed my BS in Biology at Sonoma State University in northern California, USA as a first-generation college going student where I completed an honors thesis on the impacts of tidal fluctuation on coralline algae physiology with Dr. Karina Nielsen. After completing my bachelor degree, I earned my PhD with Dr. Deron Burkepile in the Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. During my PhD I was awarded the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship to support my research investigating how human impacts drive changes to community structure and organismal physiology in coral reefs. Currently, I am a HHMI Inclusive Excellence postdoctoral researcher in the Science Education Partnership & Assessment Laboratory (SEPAL) led by Dr. Kimberly Tanner at San Francisco State University. My research investigates  teaching strategies and curriculum interventions that promote more inclusive and equitable learning environments for students who are historically excluded from science with the goal of mitigating equity gaps in biology classrooms.
